I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Center of Excellence Multibeing Justice in Indigenous Societies, co-managed by the University of Lapland and the University of Helsinki. In my own project, I examine how international environmental and human rights law conceptualize and apply ideas of relational planetary health and well-being.

I defended my doctoral dissertation in 2025. In my research, I examined Komi experiences of urban living, being, and community-building, rural-urban mobilities, and language ideologies and attitudes. You can access my dissertation here.

During my PhD, together with my colleagues from Indigenous studies at my home university, I also participated in a group research project on biocultural heritage and non-linear time. There, I was responsible for studying how local understandings of time and relationships with the natural environment are manifested in Komi time-related terminology and the material biocultural heritage.

I received my Master of Social Sciences degree from the University of Eastern Finland in 2017. There, I studied Human Geography; my Master’s thesis was titled Oil spills: Public organizations and indigenous peoples’ perspectives. The cases of the Komi Republic and Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Russia). The same year, I received another Master’s degree from the Kutafin Moscow State Law University. There, I studied Criminal Law; my second Master’s thesis was a legal analysis of Planning, preparation, initiation or waging of war of aggression.

Between my Master’s and Doctoral studies, I took a 3-year break from academia and held various positions in the private sector. I returned to academia in late 2020 (best timing ever!) when I was accepted as a PhD researcher at the University of Helsinki.

I was born in Syktyvkar, Komi Republic, Russia. Now I live in green and beautiful Helsinki, Finland.
